Special Medical Needs

If your child has any allergies, illnesses, or other issues (including medications they are taking at home) that either Sycamore staff, teachers, or emergency medical professionals would need to know on a daily basis or in the event of an emergency, it is the parents' responsibility to tell the school prior to your child's attendance.

Non-Routine Medical Care at School

If your child requires medical care at school, you will need to provide the school with a written health care plan from your child's doctor.  The school cannot administer prescription medications of any kind, or provide non-routine medical care without these written instructions.

If your child requires a health plan or 504 Plan, these must be submitted in writing prior to your child's start date.  If you have any questions about medical care or procedures at school, please contact the district nurse.

PREVENTING THE FLU

Here are a few things you can do to help prevent the spread of flu:

  • Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub. You can set a good example by doing this yourself.
  • Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food, or unwashed utensils.
  • Teach your children to cover their coughs and sneezes with tissues, or using the elbow, arm, or sleeve instead of the hand when a tissue is not available.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of the flu. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees fahrenheit, 37.8 degrees Celsius or greater), cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, and feeling very tired. Keeping children with a fever at home will reduce the number of people who may get infected.
  • Do not send children to school if they are sick.  Any children who are determined to be sick while at school will be sent home.
