Special Medical Needs

The Physician Instructions form must be completed before any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) can be given, or taken, at school. Signatures of both physician and parent/guardian are required. The form must be renewed annually or with any change in medication. It will be automatically discontinued at the end of the school year. New orders are required each school year.

If your student requires any type of medical assistance from the Health Tech, please provide doctor's orders and contact the Health office.

If your student has a fever of >100.4 F and/or diarrhea or vomiting caused by an illness, he/she must be free of fever, diarrhea and vomiting for a full 24 hours, without the use of medication, before they can return to school.

If you have any questions about medical care or procedures at school, please contact the district nurse.

PREVENTING THE FLU

Here are a few things you can do to help prevent the spread of flu:

  • Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub. You can set a good example by doing this yourself.
  • Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food, or unwashed utensils.
  • Teach your children to cover their coughs and sneezes with tissues, or using the elbow, arm, or sleeve instead of the hand when a tissue is not available.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of the flu. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees fahrenheit, 37.8 degrees Celsius or greater), cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, and feeling very tired. Keeping children with a fever at home will reduce the number of people who may get infected.
  • Do not send children to school if they are sick.  Any children who are determined to be sick while at school will be sent home.
